Vale do Lobo, famous for Europe's finest golf and beach resort, is situated in the Algarve in the south of Portugal and was founded in 1962 by Trusthouse Forte plc and Costain plc, both well-known multi-nationals. In 1962 the Algarve was mainly inhabited by farmers and fishermen. It was only after the establishment of Vale do Lobo, its five star Meridien Hotel Dona Filipa and the first golf course, that Faro Airport was opened.
Whilst looking for a holiday home in the mid 1970s, Sander van Gelder, a Dutch entrepreneur, discovered Vale do Lobo. Recognising its potential, he bought it and moved to Portugal in 1977, to set about nurturing and developing Vale do Lobo into a truly unique resort. Since establishment, the Vale do Lobo resort has gone from strength to strength, with further investment introduced yearly.

The main beach is long and covered in golden sands. You have direct access to Faro beach from Vale do Lobo beach.
