Lara Bay
Information on Lara Bay
Situated in North of Paphos in the Akamas Peninsula is Lara Bay Beach; also know as ‘Turtle Beach’. The beach itself is off a beaten track, but it is without a doubt worth making the effort to see. Due to the treacherous unpaved roads surrounding the beach, you will need a four-wheel jeep for access. The beach offers spectacular scenery with miles of untouched golden sands, providing you with an alternative to the more crowded beaches of Paphos. It is an excellent retreat from hustle and bustle of everyday life and allows you to be one with nature.
It is a unique and famous beach. Famed for its turtle hatchery where loggerhead and greenback turtles lay their eggs, one of the few places in the Mediterranean where they can still be found, Lara is also home to the Mediterranean monk seal, another very rare species. If you wish you can volunteer to help Lara Beach Turtle Station whilst you are visiting and see these protected Turtle’s for yourself. The ideal way to reach the beautiful bay is to go on a boat trip from Paphos to Lara or by road on a jeep safari.
