Coral Bay

Information on Coral Bay

Coral Bay is a popular tourist area 6 km north of the city of Paphos. The area is a small coastal resort situated approximately 15 minutes drive away from new Paphos (Kato Paphos), in South-West Cyprus. The area got its name from the deposits of what looks like salmon-pink sand just off the shoreline on the famous beach, but is actually fine coral.

Until the boom of the tourist industry hit Cyprus, Coral Bay was just that, a bay. The sandy beach that stretches over 2km within an enclosed bay is considered one of the best in Cyprus, and definitely the most popular in Paphos. Sitting on the west of Coral Bay is a lovely stretch of coastline with a rugged feel, which is fast becoming the “posh” part of the west of Cyprus. There are some incredible new villa homes set amongst more modest villas, apartments, and townhouses which are all available for rent or sale in Paphos. We can offer a wide range of villas in Coral Bay, either right in the heart of the resort or minutes walk away with a little more privacy. The area is vibrant and colourful with villas surrounded by lovely foliage and flowers and the magnificent coastline always moments away and often visible no matter where you stroll in Coral Bay. There are several hotels bars and restaurants nearby to serve the thousands of visitors that flock to enjoy the clean, turquoise and warm water of the Mediterranean Sea. The beach and the settlement next to it lie completely within the Peyia municipality, as well as the Sea Caves area and Ayios Georgios at the North Western extreme of Paphos’ urban area.

Coral Bay is a great base for exploring the pristine coastline to the north of Paphos, where a jigsaw of coves and inlets hide some of the best and most isolated beaches on the island. If you are a nature lover then visiting Cape Lara, which is the nesting site for Green and Loggerhead turtles is well worth a look. Bird watching is also popular on this stretch of Coral Bay; twitchers travel from many other parts of the island to spot rare birds which are on their way to and from the nearby Akamas Peninsular. If you are interested in diving, then you are in the right place too. There are diving schools in Akamas Peninsula situated north of Coral Bay. These diving schools are open throughout summer offering diving in beautiful clear waters of the Mediterranean. If you have never tried scuba diving before then there are plenty of schools running short courses for divers of all abilities.

The resort also boasts the famously beautiful and sandy beach ‘Coral Bay Beach”. Coral Bay beach is shaped like a horseshoe cove and is a glistening stretch of sand that gently slopes into the sea. In the middle of the Bay there is an extensive sandy beach bordered by lime stone rocks. This peaceful pretty location has very calm, clear waters and safe bathing. The Bay has a varied and extensive variety of water sports. Swimming is particularly pleasant here and the sea remains warm until late November.
