Aphrodite Hills

Information on Aphrodite Hills

Aphrodite Hills is a golfing development by Lanitis Developments which was opened in 2002 and was designed by the acclaimed architect, Cabell Robinson. The resort is located 15km East of Paphos Town. Aphrodite Hills is a high quality location for those wishing a relaxing Holiday environment with a golfing flavour.

This resort is the first ever leisure and golf development of its kind in Cyprus. Aphrodite Hills Resort is home to a magnificent 18-hole championship golf course, spreading over 6,299 metres and overlooking the site where Aphrodite, the goddess of love, is said to have emerged from the sea. The golf course also has a dedicated 3-hole Golf Academy and magnificent Clubhouse.

It is a first class golfing resort with a quality PGA golf course, surrounded by high quality villas and apartments for rent or sale. The resort also has a five star Intercontinental Hotel, providing spas and gym facilities for guests and visitors. This golf course is visually spectacular and Robinson believes Aphrodite Hills to be the perfect mix of challenging pot bunkers and manicured fairways. The course consists of lush Bermuda grass and generous tiered greens which expand through indigenous olive and carob trees. The course is built on two plateaux separated by a spectacular ravine with outstanding views over the Mediterranean. A 130 metre gorge dividing tees at the par three, the seventh hole is the perfect opportunity to put your skills to the test. The holes are mostly wide open with generous fairways and a few well-sited bunkers to make things just a tad trickier.

The most spectacular tee is often missed. On the rather long trip from the second to the third, you will pass what looks like a green ledge on the side of the gorge. If you feel confident that you can thump your drive at least 220 yards - for that is the distance you have to carry it over the gorge - you should have a go at it. The overwhelming majority, however, tee it up on the other side and thus reduce the hole from a 620-yard par five to a 450-yard par four and miss out on a true thrill. There is however no ducking out of the second crossing of the canyon at the signature seventh hole. Although only a modest par 3 of roughly 140 yards off the regular men's tee, anything landing short of the green will never be seen again. Unpleasant snakes lurk in the really inhospitable rocky areas, such as the gorge. So no matter how new or attached to your ball you've become during the course of the round, don't be tempted to retrieve it out of the serious rocks.

This course is now part of an impressive resort with a five-star hotel, luxury villas, apartments and townhouses, a spa, tennis courts and numerous other sports' facilities. Although the course hasn't changed since it was first opened in 2002, the resort has flourished and expanded and is now rightly regarded as one of the best holiday destinations on the island.
