Latchi
Information on Latchi
Latchi (Latsi) is in fact Cyprus oldest and most picturesque fishing village and stretches 3km along the North West coast of the Island and lies on the edge of the beautiful Akamas National Park. Latchi, with its coastal paved walk is the picturesque harbour of Polis. Cypriots all around the country visit Latchi for its plentiful restaurants specialising in fresh fish and traditional meze. Latchi has a beautiful harbour, ample water sports, diving & boat excursions and is of course home to the notorious Baths of Aphrodite, Cyprus very own goddess of love.
In the past Latchi served as a small port for shipping carobs. The old stone carob warehouses have been converted into restaurants, fish taverns and places of recreation. The village does have a couple of shops and bars, but no nightlife to speak of, all contributing to its tranquil charm.
Due to the tendency towards nautical tourism which was developed over the past few years in the Mediterranean resulting in the increased demand for mooring space for recreational boats, the Authority went ahead recently with the expansion of the port by constructing a new outer basin. This new basin serves explicitly recreational boats and provides all services which are usually offered at a marina and the objective is to provide service to boats sailing in the region in view of the lack of a marina in the area of Paphos, whereas the old basin of the port was left for use by the fishing boats. Following an agreement with the Government the handling of the old port basin which will be used explicitly by fishing boats is taken over by the Fisheries and Marine Research Department. Recently, two floating quays of 70m length each have been installed at Latchi Port.
As far as accommodation is concerned, the area of Latchi provides all kinds of living or renting accommodation in all categories from luxurious apartments, holiday villages, villas with private swimming pools to simple family accommodation
Latchi Beach
Latchi beach is a short stroll from the harbour area along the main resort road. The beach is renowned as one of the best on this side of the island and not as crowded as the beaches in and around Paphos itself and is famous for its clear blue sea and soft white sand. There are many taverns close by all with toilet facilities. There are however several smaller beaches in Latchi which are perfect for swimming and are covered with fine sand. Latchi is the perfect resort for water sports as it has such clean sea water. You will find windsurfing, snorkelling, scuba diving, surfing, water-skiing, jet-skiing, parasailing, sailing and fishing in Latchi. There are also plenty of boat trips to choose from such as a ride to the ‘blue lagoon’, have a swim or snorkel in the clean emerald sea.
