Beaches in Argaka

The beach of Argaka is a mix of sand and small, soft pebbles. The sea is crystal-clear, unbelievably blue and warm until at least the end of November. During July, August and September there are 2 sea turtle species nesting on these beaches: the Caretta-Carreta and the bigger and more endangered Green Turtle.

Lara bay

On a stretch of coastline in the Akamas is the lovely Lara Bay (also known as turtle beach), a turtle sanctuary and important turtle breeding site home to two endangered turtle species which are the green turtle and hawks-bill turtle. The bay of Lara is the last remaining breeding ground of the green turtles in the Mediterranean. The authorities provide the green turtles with a safe place to lay their eggs. Lara Bay (Turtle Bay) and Fontana Amorosa Bay are unique sandy beaches of beauty and tranquillity. Visit one of the last Mediterranean nesting grounds for the green loggerhead turtles, whose numbers have greatly been increased thanks to a successful conservation project on the sandy beaches of Lara.

Follow one of the many beautiful beach front nature trails and spot rare endemic plants, like the Cyprus orchid, tulip and crocus that grow there, or watch migrating birds fly by overhead.
