Beaches in Albufeira
Albufeira is famous for its rich coastline split into over 20 beaches where the warm crystal clear ocean laps against the soft and fine sands. Each beach has its own distinct and unique character due to the fascinating rock formations, caves, cliffs and grottoes that separate the bustling city from the tranquility of the sand and sea. The most popular and busiest beach is the town beach that stretches the entire length of the city.
The endless length of fine sand is made up of three beaches, Pria dos Pescadores, Pria do Inatel and Pria do Peneco. It is along these sands that tourist and sports facilities are available and water sports are rife such as windsurfing, sailing and diving. There are however small secluded beaches surrounded by cliffs and rock walls that offer as an escape from the flurry and carnival atmosphere that can be enjoyed calmly and privately. Beaches such as Pria do Oura and Pria do Gale, are just 2km from the city and offer as a further escape.
Each of Albufeira’s beaches has been rewarded with a Blue Flag. The criteria for a beach to receive this award are; Safety and Services, Environmental Management, Water Quality and Environmental Education and Information. This level of quality is maintained year after year on Albufeira’s beaches. Free parking is also available at all the beaches.
