Legal Advice

Purchasing a property abroad can be more complex than buying in the UK, not least because of the language barrier that will often be encountered. There is also more emphasis on signing documents at precise times and personal representation is often required whereas in England it is quite possible to purchase a property without ever meeting your Conveyancer, or attending a pre-arranged meeting.

For this reason, it is common practice to give your foreign solicitor Power of Attorney so that you do not have to be present at these meetings. It is of course your prerogative to employ the services of a solicitor of your choice. However, for your convenience, we have identified legal firms in all areas that can assist with the conveyancing requirements in the country in which you are buying.

Similarly, we have also identified UK Notaries (a public solicitor appointed by the Government) for all areas. Your UK Notary will assist with the documentation that your chosen solicitor will send you, if you do give your solicitor Power of Attorney.

There is more detailed information pertaining to the legal requirements of your chosen country, the pitfalls to avoid and the procedures you need to follow, in our Concise Guide to Purchasing Property abroad series. The guide covers all aspects of buying property abroad and provides valuable step by step advice on each successive stage of the buying process.

A copy of this guide will be provided free of charge when you book an inspection visit through us and we are confident that it will prove a valuable companion for your tour.
